Brigade of the American Revolution

The Brigades of the American Revolution (BAR) and Butts Hill Fort will be collaborating on a living history event, bringing together reenactment regiments under the BAR umbrella. This immersive experience is designed to educate the public about the American Revolutionary War by allowing reenactors to share their knowledge and personal experiences. The event will take place on the first weekend of May, from May 3rd to May 4th, with reenactors invited to arrive on Friday, May 2nd, for setup. Participants will have the opportunity to establish authentic campsites, following designated locations on the provided map. The site’s main entrance is wide enough to accommodate trailers, but as Butts Hill Fort is a historically protected property, digging is strictly prohibited. Campfires will be permitted with the use of metal plates to protect the ground.

 

This event holds particular significance as it highlights the often-overlooked 1778 Rhode Island Campaign. Until recently, this pivotal moment in American history was not included in Rhode Island’s school curriculum, leaving many unaware of its importance. By hosting this reenactment at Butts Hill Fort, attendees of all ages will have the chance to engage with and learn about this critical chapter of the American Revolution. Through interactive demonstrations and historical interpretation, the event aims to bring the past to life and ensure that this forgotten history is preserved and shared with future generations.
